1. Land Preparation

Plough the land 2–3 times to make it fine and level.

Ensure good drainage; water should not stagnate.

2. Pit Size and Spacing

Dig pits of 3 ft × 3 ft × 3 ft.

Recommended spacing: 25 ft × 25 ft (about 70–75 trees per acre).

Add 10–15 kg compost + 1 kg neem cake in each pit.

3. Best Season for Planting

June–July (monsoon)

Or September–October with irrigation.

4. Selecting Seedlings

Choose 10–12 months old healthy seedlings from a certified nursery.

Avoid weak, thin-stem, or diseased seedlings.

5. Planting Method

Fill pits halfway with mixed soil and compost.

Place the seedling in the center.

Fill the soil around firmly and create a small basin around the plant.

6. Irrigation

First year: water every 4–5 days.

Second year onward: water every 7–10 days.

Use drip irrigation for best growth.

7. Fertilizer Schedule

First year per tree:

Urea 150 g

Super Phosphate 300 g

MOP 150 g

Increase gradually every year up to 1 kg NPK mix per tree by year 5.

Apply compost once a year.

8. Mulching

Use dry leaves or coconut husk around the plant to retain moisture.

9. Intercropping

For first 3–4 years, grow groundnut, vegetables, banana, or pulses between rows for extra income.

10. Common Pest/Disease Control

For rhinoceros beetle: apply neem cake or naphthalene balls near the shoot.

For leaf spot: spray copper oxychloride.

Maintain field hygiene.
