Coconut farming begins with choosing the right variety suitable for your soil and climate. Since your land has red soil and bore facility, hybrid or tall varieties grow very well. You should pick healthy, 10–12-month-old seedlings from a certified nursery so they establish strongly. Before planting, prepare the land by removing weeds and doing one deep ploughing so the soil becomes loose. Mark the field in a square pattern so each tree gets enough sunlight and space. Normally, coconut is planted at 25–28 feet spacing in all directions, which gives about 60–65 trees per acre, so in 3 acres you can plant around 180–200 trees.

For each plant, dig big pits because coconut has a deep root system. The ideal pit size is about 3×3×3 feet. Keep the pits open in the sun for 10–15 days to kill pests and fungus. After that, refill the pits with a mixture of topsoil, well-decomposed cow dung or compost (20–25 kg), sand (if soil is heavy), neem cake (1–2 kg), and a little wood ash to improve soil structure. When you plant the seedling, make sure the sprout or growing point remains above soil level. Press the soil gently around the plant and give a good watering immediately.

In the first two years, coconut requires regular watering. Your borewell is sufficient, but avoid waterlogging. The best method is to give water in basins around the plant or through drip irrigation. Drip is ideal because it saves water and helps faster growth. Along with irrigation, apply fertilizers three times a year—usually in the beginning of monsoon, mid-season, and post-monsoon. Organic manure once a year also keeps the soil healthy. Keep the basins weed-free and add plenty of mulch (dry leaves, coconut fronds, paddy straw, etc.) to maintain moisture.

For good growth, you should train the young plant by keeping only one main shoot and removing any damaged leaves. After two years, the plant becomes hardy. Regular monitoring for pests like rhinoceros beetle and red palm weevil is important. Neem oil, light traps, or pheromone traps help keep them under control. If your region is windy, supporting young plants with stakes for the first year helps prevent damage.

Coconuts start yielding from the 4th to 6th year depending on the variety. With proper water, fertilizer, and pest management, each tree can produce 80–120 nuts per year in good conditions. Since you have 3 acres, the farm can become a very stable long-term income source.
